Until now, many people have believed that fully networked production is only possible on paper. We present proof to the contrary and demonstrate in Chicago how a fully connected production works in practice. People, machines, automation and software already interact seamlessly in TRUMPF's new technology center. In the Smart Factory, sheet metal processors experience connected manufacturing systems in a real-life environment.

The Smart Factory intelligently interlinks the entire "sheet metal process chain" – from the commissioning of a sheet metal component, to the design and manufacture, right up to delivery.
The Chicago site is a natural fit for the Smart Factory. Around 40 percent of the sheet metal processing industry in the USA is located in the states directly surrounding it.
An interlinked sheet metal processing system with high bay storage racks is the heart of the 55-meter-long production hall and provides materials to the machine tools connected to it.
Besides COR-TEN steel and glass, Douglas fir timber was used in the office building structure of the networked factory.
The architects Barkow Leibinger from Berlin are responsible for the design of the building.
The production line is set up so that all actual production processes can be carried out.
With the new site, the TRUMPF Group is expanding its US presence in a strategically important region.
The exterior of the building with its rough-looking paneling made from deep rust-red COR-TEN steel clearly demonstrates both the industrial context and its representative function.
In the first instance, around 30 employees work in an open and modern work environment at the TRUMPF Chicago site.
The skywalk is part of the cantilevered ceiling structure made from steel, which was produced by a TRUMPF customer in Atlanta.
