Conformally cooled insert for outlet cover
Replacing the original two-part conventional construction with a printed one-piece insert and adding conformal cooling has had a major impact on the cycle time for plastic injection molding of the outlet cover. In addition, no degradation in part quality has been observed, since the high density of the AM insert allows for a mirror finish of the entire cavity. Diffusion coating was also carried out to protect the polished areas by increasing hardness and wear resistance.
