Aluminum backbones for downhill bikes

Intense Cycles uses 3D-printed parts made of validated 6061 RAM2 for the production of prototypes, in particular the backbone. This component connects the front triangle of the frame with the spring-loaded rear end of the bicycle and takes on all the stresses of demanding downhill World Cup racing. The material is not just easy to weld but is also suitable for anodizing. The TruPrint 3000 enables these parts to be produced with an excellent surface quality and high level of productivity.

I love new technologies, especially progressive materials and processes that accelerate prototyping. We finally have access to printing powder made of 6061 aluminum that can be welded and heat-treated. These 3D-printed backbones combine printed and pipe-shaped alloy parts that are welded using conventional methods here in our FAB LAB.
